Thinking about a pergola or awning but not sure how the process works? Here’s what a typical project with GardenZone Ireland looks like, from the first message to the finished installation.

1. Send photos and rough measurements
Start by sending a few photos of the wall or area, approximate width and depth, and what you want to use the space for. That’s enough for an initial quote and to suggest the right system – awning, retractable pergola or bioclimatic pergola.
2. Quote and options
You’ll get a written quotation with the product, size and options such as motor, wind or rain sensors, LED lighting, glass walls or zip screens. If you’re still deciding between systems, our pergola comparison and awning buyer’s guide cover the main trade-offs.
3. Site survey and final measurements
Before ordering, the site is checked: wall construction for fixings, ground for posts, drainage and electrics. Systems are made to measure, so accurate dimensions matter. If you’re unsure about planning rules, GardenZone has an article on planning permission for pergolas and awnings in Ireland – always confirm with your local authority.
4. Manufacturing
Once the order is confirmed, the frame, fabric or louvres and any glass are produced to your sizes and colour choice.

5. Installation day
Most awnings are fitted in a day; pergolas with glass can take longer depending on size. The team fixes the frame, installs the roof, wires the motor and lighting, programs remotes and sensors, and shows you how everything works.
6. Aftercare
Simple care keeps the system working for years – see how to look after your awning through an Irish winter.
